Things I started to like or continued to like in 2015. Not in any particular order.

Records … songs … etc.

  • - Deerhoof - La Isla Bonita. I found this in my living room a few months ago, and wow, it's a great record.

  • - Knxwledge - HUD Dreems. Probably my favorite record of the year. Listenable yet sophisticated; sophisticated yet listenable.

  • - Pete Rock - PeteStrumentals 2. Worth the wait. PR 4 Prez, what more do you need?

  • - Madlib - Pinata Beats & Freddie Gibbs - Pinata. I know I'm a year late here.

  • - Exit Verse. Thanks to Joseph P. McRedmond for getting me to pay attention.

  • - Q-Tip - The Renaissance. I revisited this 2008 record in 2015 and can't get enough of it. It's a great, classic album.

  • - Nao - February 15 EP

  • - Mabel "Know Me Better" (thanks Stuart Meyer for showing me this!)

  • - Merry Clayton "Sink or Swim" is always good

  • - Dwele "Working On It" needs to be watched every seven to nine months.

  • - Discovering mixcloud, though not taking enough advantage of it yet.

  • - Mr Robot

  • - Ed Piskor - Hip Hop Family Tree, Vols 1-3 (Fantagraphics). Get a taste at Boing Boing.

  • - Three 1950s/1960s books that could be 40 years newer than they are, and that I read in 2015: Bruno Munari - Design As Art (1966); Christopher Alexander - Notes on the Synthesis of Form (1964); G. Polya - How to Solve It (1957).
