2015, like every year, has been fraught with conflict and turmoil. In an attempt to make sense of the resulting unease and anxiety I dug deeply into the murky waters of Protest Music. After careful and deliberate study I came up with this list of the 10 best Protest Songs of all time. Here they are in order of influence and importance:

The List

  • 1) I Can’t Drive 55 – Sammy Hagar

Due to the little red rocker’s diligence, America is free from the oppressive Nationwide speed limit of 55.

  • 2) We’re Not Gonna Take It – Twisted Sister

Dee Snyder ain’t gonna take it AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU!

  • 3) No No Song – Ringo Star

Ringo penned this call to arms for the Temperance Movement and now we are free to NOT drink and take drugs,

  • 4) Fight For Your Right – Beastie Boys

but if you want to, Ad-Rock, MCA, and Metal Mike D are in your corner!

  • 5) Rebel Yell – Billy Idol

    So is Billy!

  • 6) Rehab – Amy Winehouse

    And so was Amy!

  • 7) Masters of War – Bob Dylan

Obligatory hippie included to keep Baby Boomers from getting their panties in a bunch

  • 8) Shout – Tears For Fears

    Let it all out People!

  • 9) Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love – Van Halen

Don’t wanna talk about love? Thanks to Diamond Dave, you don’t have to!

  • 10) I Don’t Wanna Walk Around With You – The Ramones

    Who does, right?
